NILAND, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued three individuals who became lost near the Salton Sea, Sunday night.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., El Centro Station Dispatch received a call from Imperial County Sherriff’s Office (ICSO) regarding three employees of Controlled Thermal Resources needing assistance. ICSO stated due to thick brush and mud the three individuals became lost, disoriented, and needed help back to their vehicle.
Agents working the Highway 111 checkpoint and El Centro Sector’s Border Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) Unit were notified of the distress call. At approximately 9:54 p.m., BORSTAR arrived and began to search the swampy area to locate the three employees. At approximately 11:07 p.m., the three employees were located and safely extracted. All three individuals were medically evaluated and cleared.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 30 individuals who have been either lost or in distress.
