Alpine, TEXAS – Big Bend National Park Border Patrol agents encountered two pick-up trucks involved in a narcotics smuggling scheme south of Alpine, Texas.
On Saturday, May 22, 2021, Big Bend National Park Border Patrol agents encountered two rental vehicles parked south of the Texas State Highway 385 Immigration Checkpoint. Agents engaged in a consensual encounter with two adult males who were the drivers of the vehicles. Shortly after initial contact, agents requested a K-9 unit from the Texas Department of Public Safety to perform a non-intrusive K-9 inspection of the vehicles. The K-9 alerted to both vehicles and a search was conducted. Agents found and seized 1,558 pounds of marijuana.
The two adult males were transported to the Alpine Border Patrol Station for processing. The Drug Enforcement Administration accepted the case for prosecution.
