Border Patrol Agents Arrest Dangerous Man

EAGLE PASS, TexasU.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested a convicted sex offender, Aug. 3.

“Violent criminals continue in their attempts to illegally enter the United States in the midst of this pandemic," said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Our agents remain focused and their dedication to the protection of our communities never wavers.”

Agents conducting line watch operations, encountered and arrested Abel Osbaldo Mendez, a 25-year-old citizen of Guatemala. During processing, records checks revealed he was convicted of Sexual Battery by force or helplessness in Prince William County, Virginia, on March 20, 2019. He was sentenced to twelve months confinement, and was later removed from the United States.

Mendez faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years of incarceration.
