OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued a lost undocumented individual, in the Jacumba Wilderness region near Ocotillo.

The incident occurred Thursday morning at approximately 3:20 a.m., when El Centro Sector Radio Communications dispatch notified El Centro Station agents that they had received a call made by a man who illegally crossed the United States/ Mexico international boundary. The undocumented individual stated that he was left behind by his group a few days ago and was lost in the mountains and in need of some water. El Centro Station’s Mountain Disrupt Unit along with air support responded to the area and began the search using GPS coordinates provided by the lost individual’s cell phone.

At approximately 8:36 a.m., agents located the lost Mexican national and conducted a welfare check. The rescued undocumented individual was assessed, and no medical attention was required. Agents transported him to the El Centro Processing Center for further processing; he was removed back to Mexico.

Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 113 individuals lost or in distress.
