CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued an individual who was lost and in distress near the Imperial Sand Dunes early Monday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m., when El Centro Sector Radio Communications (dispatch) was contacted by the Mexicali Police Department dispatch/emergency (C4) with information of a distress call made by a Mexican national who illegally crossed the international boundary.  The individual stated her husband who crossed the border with her was deceased and that she was in distress and in need of help.  She stated that they were near a wood plank road.  The information was relayed to Calexico Station agents performing their assigned duties in the area and they responded to the location to begin searching for the illegal aliens.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., agents successfully located the individuals.  The woman was provided cold water and appeared to be in good health, requiring no medical attention.  She told agents they had been walking for three days when they ran out of food and water and that her husband collapsed after illegally crossing the international boundary.

Agents were led to the husband, who was lying nearby.  They assessed him and found him to be unresponsive.  Agents notified the Imperial County Sherriff’s Department and the El Centro Sector’s Foreign Operations Branch (FOB).

FOB contacted the Mexican Consulate and informed them that a Mexican national had died while attempting to illegally enter the United States.

The woman, an illegal alien from Mexico, was transported to a rally point for processing where agents conducted a criminal background investigation and further medical screening.  She was expelled back to her country of origin.
