Concerned Citizen Tip Leads to Arrest

HOULTON, Maine - On December 18, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Houlton Border Patrol Station arrested one United States citizen and one Honduran national near Littleton, Maine. The vehicle stop, and subsequent arrests, resulted from a tip by a local resident.

The Honduran national, Gustavo A. Diaz-Diaz, did not possess any immigration documents that would allow him to legally be, or remain in the United States.  The United States citizen and operator of the vehicle stated that he was in the area to pick up Diaz-Diaz.

“With the current focus on our southern border, it is easy to forget that the United States also shares an International Boundary with Canada,” said Houlton Station Acting Patrol Agent in Charge Jodi Williams. “This incident speaks not only to the vigilant work of our northern border agents, it also highlights the strong working relationship that we have with the ever-observant public.”

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Maine is handling prosecution of the case. The charges are merely allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
