CALEXICO, Calif. – Border Patrol agents assigned to El Centro Sector arrested a known gang member Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:09 a.m., after agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a man near the Calexico Port of Entry for suspected illegal entry. Agents determined the man was a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the United States.
Border Patrol agents conducted record checks, which revealed 32-year-old, Benedicto Anthony Cifuentes, had a previous criminal record. In 2004, Cifuentes was convicted for felony robbery by force or fear and was sentenced to four years in prison. In 2007, Cifuentes violated his parole and returned to prison to finish his original term.
Additionally, Cifuentes was convicted for illegal re-entry into the Unites States in 2016, serving a total of 36 months in jail.
Cifuentes admitted to being a member of the Head Hunters (HHS-13) gang out of Los Angeles, and will be held pending criminal prosecution.
