Agents patrolling in an area commonly used by smugglers east of Interstate 19 attempted to conduct an immigration inspection on the driver of a Ford Expedition. The driver of the vehicle did not yield and instead sped away.

Agents deployed a controlled tire deflation device on the roadway, partially disabling the vehicle and causing it to stop.

During a search of the vehicle, agents discovered five male Mexican nationals and one male Guatemalan national, ages 18 through 39, all illegally present in the U.S. Agents arrested the United States citizen driver for human smuggling and the six men for immigration violations.

The driver, who has extensive criminal history for various felony convictions, will remain in custody pending a disposition in her case. Two of the aliens arrested have prior immigration violations and removals from the United States.
