SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint arrested three individuals attempting to smuggle narcotics and in possession of a loaded weapon Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m., when a white Honda Accord driven by a woman along with two male passengers approached the checkpoint.  A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle.  The vehicle was placed in the secondary inspection area for further investigation.

with one round in the chamber.  Another high
capacity magazine loaded with 17 rounds was also
recovered from the backpack

While in secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents discovered seven packages inside a bag concealed in the rear passenger floorboard.  An additional package was found on the rear passenger’s waistband area.  Agents also discovered a backpack with a fully loaded weapon.  The weapon was loaded with a 16-round magazine with one round in the chamber.  Another high capacity magazine loaded with 17 rounds was also recovered from the backpack.   

The total weight of the narcotics discovered was 2.19 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated value of $4,927.

The subjects, all adult United States citizens, the narcotics, the vehicle, the weapon and ammunition were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
