EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector stopped two drug smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana.
Yesterday morning, Rio Grande City agents working near Garceno, Texas, responded to a report of a dark colored GMC pickup traveling away from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed. Agents located the pickup abandoned on the side of the dirt road. As agents approached the truck, they observed several bundles of marijuana in the bed and in the back seat of the pickup. Agents seized more than 685 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $548K.
That same evening, Fort Brown agents working near Brownsville, Texas, responded to a report of suspected illicit activity near the border fence. Agents, along with a K-9 team and a Border Patrol riverine unit, responded to the area and arrested five drug smugglers. The agents seized more than 280 pounds of marijuana, worth more an estimated $229K.
Border Patrol processed the subjects and cases accordingly.
