Border Patrol Stops Meth Smuggling Attempt

SALTON CITY, Calif.El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint arrested a woman suspected of smuggling narcotics Wednesday morning.

U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered 10 packages concealed inside the floorboard of the vehicle.The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m., when a 29-year-old woman driving a red Kia Rondo approached the checkpoint.  A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle.  Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.

While in secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents discovered 10 packages concealed inside the floorboard of the vehicle.  Agents determined that the packages contained a substance that was consistent with the characteristics of methamphetamine.

The total weight was 54.2 pounds of methamphetamine.The total weight of the narcotics discovered was 54.20 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated value of $102,980.

The woman, a United States citizen, the narcotics and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
