EL PASO, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers working at the Ysleta port of entry rendered lifesaving first aid to a woman in distress November 15.
The incident occurred at approximately 2;30 p.m. when an 81-year-old U.S. citizen arrived as a passenger in a vehicle, she was unconscious and had no pulse.
CBP Officers requested EMS, retrieved an Automated External Defibrillator and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. On-site medical personnel responded and continued life support.
EMS responded and transported the subject to a local hospital for care and treatment. The responding medical personnel informed CBP that had it not been for their quick response the woman likely would not have survived.
“Homeland security is our primary mission, however, our officers are often called upon as first responders to assist in medical emergencies,” said El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector A. Mancha. “I applaud their efforts in helping this woman survive her medical emergency.”
