Los Ebanos, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Los Ebanos Ferry Crossing seized 126.7 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $101,411 this past holiday weekend.
On Feb. 14 CBP officers working at the Los Ebanos Ferry Crossing came in contact with a northbound 2002 Chevy S-10 pickup truck. After the initial primary examination, the vehicle was referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 24 marijuana packages that were found hidden in the vehicle's tires. CBP officers seized the marijuana and the Chevy S-10 pickup truck.
The matter was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation.
Javier Cantu, acting CBP port director for Rio Grande City and Los Ebanos, said, "I commend our officers for intercepting and seizing this marijuana load." Cantu further said, "It is not common to see significant loads of narcotics at Los Ebanos due to the small volume of traffic. The seizure underscores the skill and dedication of our officers to detect and interdict a significant narcotics load at this small crossing."
