Niagara Falls, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations announced the apprehension of a United States citizen wanted in the state of Vermont for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana.
On January 8, CBP officers at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing received notification from Canada Border Services Agency that Aaron Goon, a 37-year-old United States citizen, was being removed from Canada and returned to the United States. CBSA stated that Mr. Goon was stopped by Toronto Police Services on November 11, 2009, for riding his bicycle without lights. Warrant checks revealed that Mr. Goon may be the subject of a U.S. federal arrest warrant issued in Vermont in 1998. It was also determined that Mr. Goon was living illegally in Canada. He was arrested and turned over to CBSA for deportation proceedings.
Upon his return to the United States, CBP officers conducted records checks, to include fingerprint queries, which verified that Mr. Goon was in fact the subject of an active nationwide no bond warrant issued in May of 1999. Mr. Goon was arrested in June of 1998 by the Vermont State Police on charges of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. Mr. Goon claims he originally entered Canada shortly after his arrest, and has been living there illegally ever since.
CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition. Mr. Goon was then arrested by CBP and turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending extradition to Vermont.
