LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge intercepted a mixture of hard narcotics totaling $1.6 million in street value.
“The methods of drug trafficking syndicates are continually evolving, becoming sophisticated in their methods of evading detection,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Fortunately, our drug detection technologies help us stay in front of the new trends.”
The seizure occurred on Friday, June 12th when a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge referred a commercial bus making entry from Mexico for secondary inspection. A 36-year-old male Mexican citizen passenger voluntarily presented his belongings for a non-intrusive imaging system examination, resulting in the discovery of 24.82 pounds of alleged heroin, 53.21 pounds of alleged methamphetamine and 8.95 pounds of alleged Tramadol pills concealed within his baggage.
The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $1,628,580.
CBP seized the narcotics. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
