INDIO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident attempting to smuggle close to $163,000 worth of methamphetamine Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:16 p.m., agents conducted a vehicle stop on a 2015 blue Dodge Journey on Interstate 10 near the Dillion Road exit. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team, dispatched to assist in the vehicle stop, alerted agents to the rear of the vehicle. Agents inspected the rear cargo area where they discovered a black storage box with a yellow lid.
The contents of the box revealed several wrapped plastic bundles near the bottom. A black duffle was also found behind the driver’s seat containing similar bundles found in the storage box. The contents of all the bundles found contained a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
The driver was found in possession of 46.5 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $162,750.
The driver, vehicle, and narcotics were transported to the Indio Border Patrol Station for further processing.
