CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a gang member Sunday evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., agents assigned to the Calexico station encountered a group of 16 undocumented individuals who illegally entered the United States through the Imperial Sand Dunes, one mile north of the U.S./Mexico border. The individuals were arrested and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be further medically evaluated and processed accordingly.

Record checks revealed that one individual of the group is a documented gang member of the Sureño 13 Street criminal gang. This individual has extensive criminal and immigration history that includes felony convictions and multiple re-entries after deportation. This individual was previously ordered to be removed from the U.S.

U.S. Border Patrol will process all 16 individuals accordingly.
