EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrest a convicted sex offender, Aug. 19.
“This arrest marks the second convicted sex offender in Del Rio Sector in as many days," said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “This is a stark reminder of the important role border security plays in protecting our communities.”
Agents apprehended Mario Salvador Lopez-Martinez, 43, a citizen of Honduras, after he entered the United States illegally. During processing, agents discovered that Lopez-Martinez was convicted in 2010 of Consensual Sexual Intercourse with a Child, and two counts of Contribute to Delinquency of a Minor. For his crimes, he was sentenced to two years’ incarceration, in Fairfax, Virginia.
Lopez-Martinez was ordered removed by an immigration judge and was subsequently removed from the United States in 2011.
As a convicted felon, he faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
