STERLING, Virginia — New York Yankee’s Hall of Famer, Yogi Bera, said it best: “It’s like déjà vu all over again.”
In less than two weeks, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized about the same amount of marijuana, concealed inside the same number of tins, packed inside the same number of parcels, and destined again for three different addresses in Belgium.
During an outbound inspection, CBP officers discovered a combined 326 grams of marijuana inside 93 tins inside three parcels during an outbound inspection Tuesday at Washington Dulles International Airport. The parcels were shipped from West Hollywood, Calif.
“Shippers of illicit contraband sometimes attempt a similar export method, and when they do, CBP officers are there to intercept the load,” said Casey Durst, CBP’s Field Operations Director in Baltimore. “Our officers’ dedication and vigilance are commendable, and were instrumental in intercepting these illegal narcotics.”
CBP officers made a similar seizure of 325 grams of marijuana at Dulles Airport June 2.
CBP uses a variety of techniques to intercept narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, counterfeit consumer goods, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products, and to assure that global tourism remains safe and strong.
During a typical day last year, CBP seized 4,657 pounds of narcotics along our nation’s borders. Learn more about what CBP accomplishes during "A Typical Day."
