Georgia Fugitive Captured at the Border

Blaine, Wash. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers apprehended a Lithuanian man on March 1 who is wanted in Lawrenceville, Georgia for alleged fraud.

Officers arrested Rolandas Tamulevicius, 37, upon his arrival to the United States at the Pacific Highway port of entry when a name check revealed that he was the subject of a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) felony warrant. The offense is alleged to have been committed several years ago, after Tamulevicius had been admitted to the United States as a tourist.

"It doesn't matter when you first arrived into the United States, if you committed a crime here and later return, you will find yourself in handcuffs," said Area Port Director Greg Alvaraez. "Apprehending criminals at our borders is part of the job our officers perform on a daily basis."

After verification of the warrant for arrest with Gwinnett County officials, CBP officers immediately took Tamulevicius into custody. He was transported to the Whatcom County jail for extradition to Georgia.

The NCIC is a centralized, automated database designed to share information with law enforcement agencies. Warrants are given for a wide range of offenses including money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual abuse of children, violation of protection orders, fraud, failure to appear, larceny and military desertion.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
