Hereford Woman Arrested for Smuggling after Fleeing from Border Patrol Agents

Release Date
Wed, 09/05/2018

TUCSON, Ariz. – A 41-year-old Hereford woman was arrested for smuggling two illegal aliens Tuesday evening after she fled from Brian A. Terry Station agents near Bisbee.

Camera operators at the station witnessed two men walk through the desert and enter a black pickup truck on the side of Highway 92. The camera operators directed nearby agents to the truck for an immigration stop.

When the vehicle stopped, two male passengers fled on foot but were quickly apprehended by responding agents. Meanwhile, the woman sped away for a short distance. When agents encountered the truck a second time, they arrested the woman for smuggling.

The two men, identified as Mexican nationals, ages 18 and 20, were processed for immigration violations.

Federal law allows agents to charge individuals by complaint, a method that allows the filing of charges for criminal activity without inferring guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials welcome assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. Reporting illicit activity could result in saving someone’s life.
