MIAMI— A Honduran national has been sentenced to five years in prison in United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida on Child Pornography charges. The sentence includes eight years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of Activities Constituting/Containing Child Pornography.
Lucas Sanchez-Velasquez, a 39-year-old citizen of Honduras, was arrested in March of 2021 by CBP officers after they discovered child pornography images on his cell phone upon his arrival to the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Sanchez-Velasquez was subsequently referred to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for investigation.
CBP officers screen international travelers and cargo and search for illicit narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, counterfeit consumer goods, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products that could potentially harm the American public, U.S. businesses, and our nation’s safety and economic vitality.
“The CBP mission encompasses many factors, protecting children and the most vulnerable in our communities is of the utmost importance to each and everyone of us,” said Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Port Director Dylan J. DeFrancisci. ” Every arrest for a child pornography violation is significant to accomplishing our mission.”
