Human Smuggling Attempt Stopped at Immigration Checkpoint

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested an adult woman Wednesday for attempting to smuggle an undocumented Mexican man through the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 19, near Amado.

The woman, identified as a U.S. citizen from Nogales, Arizona, was driving a 2001 Kia Rio through the primary inspection lane with one passenger when agents referred her for a secondary inspection. During questioning, the passenger, later identified as a citizen of Mexico, admitted being in the U.S. illegally.

The woman is being charged for human smuggling, while the passenger faces removal proceedings in accordance to Tucson Sector guidelines.
