K-9 Assists Task Force in Seizing Narcotics Inside of Storage Unit

CALEXICO, Calif. El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents in a joint effort with an Imperial County task force seized $379,230 worth of narcotics Friday night. 

At approximately 10:00 p.m., Agents obtained a search warrant to open a storage unit suspected of storing illicit contraband. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team that was dispatched to assist the task force search alerted to the interior of the storage unit. Agents inspected the unit and discovered two hollowed out, vehicle batteries. The batteries contained clear plastic bags filled with narcotics. One bag comprising of pills and the other with two bricks of a white powdery substance, imprinted in the shape of a skull. 

The pills tested positive for fentanyl and the white powdery substance tested positive for cocaine. The 10.6 pounds of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $318,000, and 4.5 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $61,230 were turned over to the Border Crime Suppression Team.
