LONG BEACH, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations (AMO) agents, and three Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPO) facilitated the rescue of two men over the weekend, after their boat capsized.

Saturday evening, a Long Beach Marine Unit crew was on patrol, when they heard a distress call over the radio, reporting a capsized vessel with two persons in the water approximately one nautical mile west of Angeles Gate, San Pedro, California.

The marine agents responded in their 41-foot SAFE Boat, where they found an overturned sailboat, and two adult males clinging to the hull of the vessel.

Due to the rough sea state, the AMO agents and CBPO’s could not retrieve the men from the water. The agents relayed the location information of the men and remained on scene until the men were taken aboard a Los Angeles Fire Department Lifeguard vessel.

“This rescue is another great example of the capabilities that our newly established Long Beach Marine Unit can bring into the Long Beach and Los Angeles area, said Michael Montgomery, Director of the San Diego Air and Marine Branch.  “The vigilance, service, integrity and professionalism of our mariners led to the rescue of two lives.”
