EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two smugglers in three separate marijuana smuggling attempts.
Early Thursday morning, agents working near Rio Grande City observed several subjects load bundles of narcotics into a BMW sedan parked along the Rio Grande. As mobile units responded, the vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed. Agents located the sedan as it returned to the river, where they saw the driver abandon the car and attempt to flee. A quick search of the area resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old United States citizen. Inside the vehicle, agents discovered four bundles of marijuana weighing over 230 pounds with an estimated value of $187K.
That afternoon, McAllen agents responded to Bentsen State Park due to the report of an illegal entry along the Rio Grande. Agents, along with U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers, seized over 240 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $192K. A thorough search of the area also resulted in the apprehension of an illegal alien.
Hours later, agents working near Havana, Texas, encountered several subjects carrying bundles of marijuana. As agents approached, the subjects abandoned the bundles and fled back to Mexico. The marijuana weighed over 230 pounds and has an estimated value of $187K.
