Meth found in speaker box
Border Patrol agents find 33.4 pounds of
methamphetamine concealed inside of a
speaker box.

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two United States citizens attempting to smuggle 33.4 pounds of methamphetamine through an immigration checkpoint, early Monday morning.

At approximately 1:18 a.m., a black 2006 Mercedes E-Class approached the Highway 86 checkpoint. The agent inspecting vehicles in the primary lanes referred the vehicle to secondary inspection.

A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the rear of the vehicle. Agents inspected the trunk of the vehicle and discovered a speaker box. An in-depth inspection of the speaker box revealed multiple vacuum sealed packages inside. The contents of the packages contained a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The 29-year-old male driver and his 28-year-old female passenger were in possession of 33.4 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $38,868.

The subjects, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
