CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector rescued an individual, at risk of drowning in the All-American Canal Wednesday.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:36 a.m., when agents observed two males illegally enter the United States. Agents then noticed they entered the All-American Canal (AAC) and attempted to travel north by floating across. One male was not wearing a life vest and appeared to have a difficult time swimming across.
Agents working in the field quickly responded to provide aid. At approximately 7:40 a.m., an agent arrived on scene and successfully deployed a rescue bag to pull the man to safety.
Agents conducted a welfare check of the individuals, but they declined medical attention. It was determined the individuals, a Guatemalan national and a Mexican national, were without proper documentation to be in the United States legally. They were apprehended and transported to the El Centro Sector Centralized Processing Center for further processing.
All individuals will be medically evaluated and processed accordingly.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have rescued two migrants who have been either abandoned by smugglers, lost or in distress.
