TUCSON, Ariz. – Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested two U.S. citizens attempting to smuggle two Mexican nationals through the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint Wednesday.

Agents working in the primary lanes referred the driver of a Mitsubishi sedan for additional immigration inspection. After questioning, agents determined the two rear seat passengers, a Mexican national male and female, were illegally present in the United States.

The 19-year-old driver and 21-year-old front seat passenger, both Tucson residents, were arrested for human smuggling and will remain in custody pending resolution of their case.

Agents processed both Mexican nationals for immigration violations and subsequently discovered the male was removed from the United States by immigration officials two weeks prior.
