TUCSON, Ariz. – Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested two Nogales local residents after finding two male Mexican nationals in the trunk of a sedan at the Intestate 19 Immigration Checkpoint Sunday night.
Agents working the primary inspection lane referred the 18-year-old driver of a Saturn for a secondary inspection after a canine alerted to an odor it is trained to detect. When agents opened the vehicle’s trunk, they discovered two men inside, ages 24 and 47.
Agents seized the vehicle and arrested the driver and his 17-year-old passenger, identified as U.S. citizens, for human smuggling. The two Mexican nationals were processed for immigration violations.
