AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico –U.S. Border Patrol, Puerto Rico Police and Camuy Municipal Police apprehended 4 illegal aliens Monday following an extensive search in response to a landing near the municipality of Camuy.

“Smuggling organizations believe that with the COVID-19 pandemic Border Patrol has relaxed its enforcement posture,” indicated Xavier Morales, Chief Patrol Agent for Ramey Sector. “Our agents and partners remain vigilant in securing the border and protecting local communities.” Border Patrol Agents inspect two of the aliens before transportation to the station for processing

Near noon, the Ramey Border Patrol communications center received notice of a migrant incursion through the northern coast of the island.

Ramey Border Patrol agents reached the “Yeguada” area of Camuy starting a search along with the Puerto Rico and Camuy Municipal Police.

In a very rough terrain, the search party located four (4) aliens, all from the Dominican Republic, who entered illegally.  Agents found a 21-foot long, “yola” type vessel, with two 40hp outboard engines and many products from the Dominican Republic.

All aliens were transported to the Ramey station for immigration processing and removal.

Recently, Border Patrol and Operations Stonegarden partners apprehended 15 aliens from the Dominican Republic.

The Operation Stonegarden Grant Program (OPSG) is designed to enhance cooperation and coordination from the U.S. Border Patrol with local, tribal, territorial, state and federal law enforcement agencies in a joint mission to secure the border.

The Ramey Sector is one of the twenty-one Sectors spread out across the United States. Encompassing the U.S. territorial islands of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, it is the only Border Patrol Sector located outside the continental United States. The Sector's entire border area is made up of coastline and its area of responsibility is made up of some 6,000 square miles of land and water area, including the twelve-mile band of territorial water surrounding the Islands.
