Previously Convicted Illegal Alien Arrested by Border Patrol

LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents, assigned to the Cotulla Station, apprehended an illegal alien who was convicted of Indecent Liberties with a Child.

The arrest occurred during the morning of January 9, when agents encountered an individual near State Highway 83 north of Laredo, Texas.  During investigation, records checks revealed that 37-year-old Sotero Salas-Ruiz, a Mexican national, was in the country illegally, with a prior conviction for Indecent Liberties with a Child and Driving Under the Influence, February 2009 out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Salas-Ruiz was charged with Illegal Entry into the United States and will remain in U.S. Border Patrol custody pending his extradition to North Carolina.
