SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. — Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sault Sainte Marie Station rescue missing elderly couple.
On June 29, 2022, at around 7 a.m., Sault Ste Marie (SMM) Border Patrol Station was made aware of a missing person search currently in progress by the Luce County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). Chippewa County Central Dispatch confirmed that a couple in their 60s had gone looking for rocks along the Lake Superior shoreline at approximately 9:00 pm and did not return to their hotel room. LCSO had been searching since 4:00 am and had been unsuccessful.
SMM deployed three patrol vehicles, three agents, and one Supervisor to assist in the search. After searching for approximately one hour, SMM Border Patrol Agents (BPAS) located the missing uninjured subjects and their stuck vehicle near Deer Park.
“I could not be prouder of our agent’s actions and their steadfast dedication to service,” said Chief Patrol Agent Robert Danley. “This goes to highlight the importance of strong partnerships with our fellow law enforcement partners and how we can quickly come together to protect our communities.”
SMM BPAS provided water and supportive care and assisted in extricating the stuck vehicle. They then escorted the subjects out to a local road where they could return to their hotel.
