Salinas Victoria, Nuevo Leon, México — On April 6, 2021, elements of the Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional (Secretary of National Defense), in coordination with the Fiscalia General de la Republica (Attorney General of the Republic) in Nuevo Leon, confirmed the arrest of Evaristo Cruz Sanchez, aka “Vaquero”, who is a top Gulf Cartel leader and operational commander in Matamoros.

Evaristo Cruz Sanchez was targeted, appearing in the “Se Busca Informacion” signage launched on June 7, 2018, as a joint effort between the U.S. Border Patrol and the Government of Tamaulipas. The “Se Busca” initiative was launched in order to enhance security and improve the quality of life along the Rio Grande Valley, as well as solidifying the coalition of law enforcement agencies, state offices, municipal governments, and private industries working diligently to dismantle criminal organizations.

No further details of the arrest have been received, as the case remains under investigation.

Billboards, posters, flyers, and videos of the top ten “Se Busca” targets will be displayed in heavily traveled locations throughout the region. Along with the pictures of the targets, a phone number is listed, allowing the public to provide anonymous tips to assist in the arrest of these individuals.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
