FORT COVINGTON, N.Y. – On April 13, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Burke Station apprehended seven illegal aliens.
This past Saturday evening, the Tactical Communications Center of the Swanton Border Patrol Sector notified U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Burke Station that there were seven people illegally crossing the international boundary into the U.S. near Fort Covington. Border Patrol agents responded to the area and located the group as they were walking south, away from the international border. During the interview, it was discovered that all seven individuals are citizens of Mexico without any immigration documentation allowing them to enter or remain in the United States. Agents took the group into custody and transported them to the Burke Border Patrol Station for further processing.
“The quick response by Burke agents resulted in the apprehension of seven illegal aliens,” said Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia. “These apprehensions are another great example of the hard work Border Patrol agents do every day to make our communities safer and secure our nation’s border.”
The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York will be prosecuting four of the individuals, consisting of one woman and three men, for illegal entry under 8 USC § 1325. The other three individuals will be processed administratively and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for removal proceedings.
The Swanton Sector is responsible for securing the land border between ports of entry in Vermont, New Hampshire and northeastern New York. The assistance of citizens is invaluable to the Border Patrol's border security mission and we welcome community members' help to keep our nation’s borders safe. Please report suspicious activity at 1-800-689-3362.
