IMPERIAL, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two undocumented individuals Sunday with prior convictions for a sexual offense.
The first incident occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered an undocumented individual who illegally entered the United States, just east of the Calexico East Port of Entry. The individual was arrested and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be processed accordingly.
Record checks revealed that this undocumented individual was convicted on three counts for a sexual offense: Lewd or lascivious acts with child under 14 with a requirement to register as a sex offender, contact minor with intent of sex and arrange to meet with a minor. Additionally, this individual was previously ordered to be removed from the U.S. by an immigration judge.
The second incident occurred at approximately 10:22 p.m., when agents assigned to the Indio Station’s Highway 111 checkpoint encountered a white Toyota Tundra attempting to travel north through the checkpoint. During an interview of the driver and passenger, it was determined that they were both undocumented and attempting to transport an additional two undocumented individuals in the vehicle. The driver, passenger, and both occupants were arrested and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be processed accordingly.
Record checks revealed that one of the occupants being transported was convicted of rape: force/fear/etc. and sentenced to five years in prison. Additionally, this individual was previously removed from the United States.
U.S. Border Patrol will process all individuals accordingly.
Since Oct. 1, 2021, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested and/or removed 2 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges.
