U.S. Border Patrol to Host Citizens Academy

Houlton, Maine - The U.S. Border Patrol's Houlton Sector will conduct the first Citizens Academy hosted by the Fort Fairfield Station on March 2.

The Citizens Academy will consist of 18 to 20 students and will meet every Tuesday night from 6 to 9 p.m. for a six-week period. The Academy will inform the participants about the overall mission and function of the United States Border Patrol and the Houlton Sector. Our goal is to foster understanding and create an open dialogue with the citizens that we serve.

The Houlton Sector Citizens Academy is open to all U.S. citizens, 18 years of age and above, who are interested in learning about the Border Patrol's history, legal authority, mission, operations, and partnerships. Attendees receive approximately 15 hours of instruction within a period of six weeks from Border Patrol agents and various guest speakers, including other federal and local law enforcement agencies.

There is limited space available for this event, therefore any media interested in attending and observing the first class should RSVP to the Houlton Sector Office of Public Affairs at (207) 532-6521 by noon on Feb. 26.

Individuals, other than media, can obtain applications at the following Border Patrol locations and must return them by Feb. 25.
