INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn – U.S. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the International Falls Station seize boat and detain three people on Rainy Lake.

On September 8, 2018, agents were informed that a vessel was observed traveling from Canadian waters into the United States.  Agents located the vessel at a local resort with three occupants on board.  All three individuals were citizens of Canada and admitted to not reporting their entry into the United States.

The owner/operator of the vessel was cited for violation of 19 USC 1436 and 19 USC 1433 (Failure to Report Arrival into the United States), which could result in a $5000.00 fine each.  The vessel that was used in violation of the law was seized and all occupants were granted a voluntary return to Canada.

“Individuals operating on the waterways along the U.S./Canada Border are reminded that they must always report their arrival and be inspected by CBP when they make entry into the United States,” said Derek Mason. Patrol agent in Charge. “CBP has recently launched the Reporting Offsite Arrival Mobile app or ROAM which now allows travelers to properly report in directly from their smartphone.”
