U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Edgard Garcia was driving back to the union office at the Port of Nogales on May 5, 2017, after completing National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) duties in Tucson, Arizona.  During this drive, he was involved in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 19.  Officer Garcia did not regain consciousness and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

Officer Edgard Garcia joined U.S. Customs and Border Protection on January 12, 2004, at the Nogales, Arizona Port of Entry.  He was a K-9 Enforcement Officer, Passenger Control Officer, and was the Vice President for the NTEU Chapter 116.  Officer Garcia was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country honorably from 1994 to 1998 and served as a member of the Arizona National Guard.  Officer Garcia was survived by his mother and two sisters.
