U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Jeffrey P. Dela Cruz passed away on December 23, 2021. The circumstances of his passing were reviewed by an executive panel and the CBP Commissioner who agreed that this death occurred in the line of duty. CBPO Dela Cruz will be remembered for his diligent service to the nation and for his bravery in the face of danger.
CBPO DeLaCruz began his career with the U.S. Customs Service on November 5, 1990, and spent his entire career at the Port of Chicago. In August 2006, Officer Dela Cruz became a canine officer and served in that capacity until the end of his career. He was a member of the local law enforcement motorcycle club and had an unwavering devotion his family and to his canines. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.
