U.S. Customs Officer/Revenue Boatman Kuntz Stahlberger died from injuries sustained in the line of duty on January 2, 1880 at Port Eads (New Orleans) Louisiana.  Officer Stahlberger was attempting to seal the hatch of the British Vessel Commander when he fell into the hold and died.  At the time of his death, Officer Stahlberger had worked for more than six months for U.S. Customs.  Prior to that, Officer Stahlberger had served as a detective for seven years on the New Orleans Police Department.  He was survived by his wife and son.
