CBP Port Director Mathew L. Lyons passed away on October 28, 2021. The circumstances of his passing were reviewed by an executive panel and the CBP Commissioner who agreed that this death occurred in the line of duty. Port Director Lyons will be remembered for his diligent service to the nation and for his bravery in the face of danger.
Port Director Lyons began his career with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on January 14, 2009, at the Port of Sweetgrass, Montana. He later served at the CBP National Targeting Center in Sterling, Virginia and the Port of Del Bonita, Montana. In July 2021, he was promoted to port director at the Port of Whitlash, Montana and at the time of his passing was on temporary duty at the Port of Sweetgrass, Montana.
