U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Richard "Ricky" Rios passed away on December 2, 2020.  The circumstances of his passing were reviewed by an executive panel and the CBP Commissioner who agreed that his death occurred in the line of duty.  Officer Rios will be remembered for his diligent service to the nation and for his bravery in the face of danger.

Officer Rios began his CBP career on September 29, 2003.  Since August 2019, he had been assigned to the Area Port of Ysleta, Texas at the Commercial Import Facility where he also served as a local property officer.

Officer Rios was a man of faith who was devoted to his family. He enjoyed trying different restaurants and cuisines with his wife, children and mother, and doing yard work. His closest friends described him as funny, supportive, hardworking, and a great friend.

CBPO Rios is survived by his wife, two daughters, and his mother.
