YUMA, Arizona. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued two undocumented individuals in the sand dunes near Yuma, Saturday afternoon.

The rescue was initiated at approximately 1:45 p.m., when Calexico Border Patrol station notified agents working in the field of two individuals within the sand dunes who were lost due to high winds and limited visibility and needed assistance. At approximately 2:18 p.m., agents located the individuals, approximately a quarter mile north of the U.S./Mexico border.

After a wellness check of the individuals, it was determined no medical assistance was needed, and it was verified that the individuals did not possess the required documents to be present in the United States legally.

The individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for additional medical evaluation and to be processed accordingly.

Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 148 individuals who were lost, in distress, or abandoned by smugglers.
