YUMA, Ariz. – A Yuma Station Border Patrol agent working in the San Luis area apprehended a subject with an active arrest warrant who fled the scene of a domestic violence call Wednesday.

The San Luis Police Department contacted Yuma Sector Border Patrol dispatch and requested backup on a domestic violence call. The incident originated in a residential area, and the subject absconded from the scene running southbound toward the international border. A responding Border Patrol agent located the fleeing subject and took him into custody.

The 31-year-old man was turned over to the San Luis Police Department.

Law enforcement response to domestic violence calls can be a volatile and dangerous situation due to the heightened emotional state of perpetrators. According to the FBI, domestic violence calls lead to approximately 14% of officer deaths every year.
