BRACKETTVILLE, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector arrested a convicted a murderer shortly after he illegally entered the United States, April 14.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., Brackettville Station agents apprehended a group of five migrants near Brackettville. During processing, record checks revealed that one subject, a Honduran national was convicted of second-degree murder in North Carolina.
Victor Alfonso Cruz-Garcia, 35, was arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and charged with second-degree murder. Cruz-Garcia was found guilty on Feb. 13, 2012, and was sentenced to 14 years and three months confinement.
As a convicted felon with prior removals, the subject faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
During fiscal year 2022, Oct. 1, 2021, through March 31, 2022, Del Rio Sector agents have encountered more than 944 criminal migrants.
All subjects are processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies.
