OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued eight undocumented individuals in separate events over the weekend in the Jacumba Wilderness region.
The first incident occurred Saturday afternoon, at about 4:30 p.m., when El Centro Station Dispatch received an activation from a rescue

beacon located in the mountainous area. The rescue beacon provides the capability for a migrant to call for medical and rescue assistance along with an automatic location. Dispatch notified agents working in the field of the activation and they proceeded to the known area. At about 4:40 p.m., agents arrived and encountered an undocumented individual about 1.5 miles north of the United States/ Mexico border.
Agents conducted a welfare check of the individual who illegally crossed the United States and determined that he was suffering from a heat related illness. Emergency medical services was dispatched to provide additional medical treatment for dehydration in which he was transported via ambulance to a nearby local hospital where he made a full recovery. The individual, a 32-year-old male, Mexican national, was taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center.
The second incident occurred early Sunday morning, at about 4:10 a.m., when El Centro Sector Dispatch received a call from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office regarding a 9-1-1 call they had received about an individual who illegally crossed into the United States and was now lost and in distress.
El Centro Station Dispatch notified agents working in the field of the call and of the last known GPS coordinates of the individual. At about 4:20 a.m., Agents made contact with a group of three individuals, a few hundred feet north of the United States/Mexico International Boundary. It was determined that the group of three undocumented individuals, a 29-year-old male, 30-year-old female and a 5-year-old girl were a family from Honduras.
Agents conducted welfare checks and determined that no medical attention was required. The undocumented individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center.
The third incident occurred early Monday morning, at about 5:20 a.m., when El Centro Sector Dispatch received a call from the California Highway Patrol regarding a 9-1-1 call they received about a group of individuals who illegally crossed into the United States and were now lost and in distress.
El Centro Station Dispatch notified agents working in the field of the call and of the last known GPS coordinates of the individuals. At about 5:35 a.m., Agents made contact with a group of four individuals, a quarter of a mile north of the United States/Mexico International Boundary. It was determined that the group of four undocumented individuals, two adult females and two juveniles were a family from Ecuador.
Agents conducted welfare checks and determined that no medical attention was required. The undocumented individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center. All undocumented individuals in each incident will be processed accordingly.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 256 individuals lost or in distress.
