DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station rescued a man in distress on a local ranch, July 14.
“While crossing the border illegally is always a dangerous trek, temperatures averaging over 100 degrees Fahrenheit only furthers this risk,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero, II. “Had our agents not been able to locate this individual, the circumstances could have proved fatal.”
At approximately 9 a.m., Del Rio Station received a phone call from an individual who stated his friend, a 25-year-old citizen of Mexico, was in distress on a local ranch near Del Rio. Agents, along with EMTs and a K-9 team, were dispatched to the individual’s last known location. After a brief search of the area, agents were able to locate the man, who appeared to be suffering from extreme heat exhaustion. Agents quickly transported him to the Val Verde Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Once the subject is released from the hospital, he will be processed per CBP guidelines.
