Brownsville CBP Officers Seize $910K in Narcotics in Two Seizures

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted alleged narcotics in two separate enforcement actions that have a combined estimated street value of $910,405.

“When conducting their inspections, our officers will use the available tools and experience to keep our borders secure and keep these dangerous narcotics from reaching our streets,” said (A) Port Director Bob Parker, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The first seizure took place on Monday, Jun. 28, at Veterans International Bridge when a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, attempted entry into the United States driving a 2004 Chevrolet. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  While in the secondary inspection area, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system (NII) and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered four packages which contained a total of 22.44 pounds of alleged methamphetamine and one package which contained a total of 1.05 ounces of alleged cocaine hidden within the 2004 Chevrolet which were removed by the CBP officers.

The second seizure also took place on Monday, Jun. 28, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge when a 39-year-old male United States citizen from Brownsville, Texas, applied for entry into the United States driving a 2006 Ford.  The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  In secondary, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system (NII), CBP officers discovered 25 packages hidden within the 2006 Ford.  CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 59.78 pounds of alleged cocaine.

The estimated street value of the narcotics from the seizures is approximately $448,856, $509, and $461,040 respectively.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and vehicles, arrested the travelers, and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
