LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers intercepted a significant amount of narcotics with an estimated street value of more than $8.7 million in two unrelated enforcement actions over the weekend at the World Trade Bridge.
“CBP officers display a high level of vigilance in preventing contraband from entering our country each day,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.
Both seizures occurred at the World Trade Bridge. The first seizure occurred on Friday, March 20, when a CBP officer referred a 2000 Freight liner tractor trailer hauling a shipment of plastic containers for a secondary examination. Upon a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, a total of 137 packages containing 3,272 pounds of alleged marijuana were discovered within the shipment.
The second seizure occurred on Thursday, March 19, when a CBP officer referred a 2002 Freight liner tractor trailer for a secondary examination. Upon a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, a total of 159 packages containing 581 pounds of alleged methamphetamine were discovered within the vehicle.
The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $8,790,180.
CBP officers seized the narcotics. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
